** spoiler alert ** I don't know. Maybe it was just me...
I am a sucker for happy endings and the lovers ending up together...

Before I begin, I would like to say that I dearly adored Art. She was a female character that wasn't winey or childish. She was determined, strong, allusive, yet also a dreamer. I liked her and how she stood up to the gallows with no fear. I admired her.

I was happy for her by the end of book 2. I thought that was a nice ending; her being pregnant, reuinted with Felix, problems resolved; but that wasn't the case...

I was thrilled that there was a book 3. While I read the book, I immediately sensed that something was wrong. She didn't love her child. When she had to run away to keep Felix "safe" from the secret, he left and went to another land where he fell in love with a queen.

I am one of those people who think that there's one love for you and that you should NEVER betray your spouse. My only reaction was hope; hope that he would go back to Art like in book 2, but that never happened.

At the end, Art went back on her word and killed a man to protect Felix, which was all in vain because during that time Felix found out about the secret and fell even more in love with that Queen. Art "drowned", thinking where was Felix when she needed him...

Her friends thought she was dead, her father never came back to help her, her husband is going to marry someone else, her daughter could care less, and Art is all alone. The end.

Sigh...I spent weeks crying my eyes out. I hate it when characters I fall for get horribly treated in the end...Maybe this is just me.

Like I said, I'm a sap for happy endings.

Abby Totally agree with you, I love happy endings, I was about to read these books but when I saw your review, I decided against it, thank you for the heads up.

Kate That's awful! Yep, glad I never read this one...

message 3: by Amber (new) - added it

Amber Simpson Yes! Thank you. I've been saying this for years. After this last book in the series I swore off pirate books. One day I'll eventually read another pirate book.
