This book makes me want to visit Egypt (perhaps NOT right now!) Mahoney writes about her quest to row part of the Nile, and the difficulties she encounters trying to arrange this. She makes many historical references to historical travel writing, particularly Nightingale and Flaubert, which is what made the book interesting for me. Many similarities remain with the situations the author encountered, and the situations encountered by travelers a century ago.
