The novel deals with the plight of women in Afghanistan. It is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of the country's last thirty years - from Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to the post-Taliban rebuilding. In spite of the war, violence, destruction, cruelty and abusive marriages the reader will see "a thousand splendid suns" through the love and friendship of the main heroines. A stunning story!
