I love Josephine Tey and am wary of fictionalizing biography because it can be badly done.

Nicola Upson writes with an eye to history and a genuine feeling for Tey that make this novel work well.

This novel will probably appeal more to readers who have already read Josephine Tey's works.

For those now looking for other novels with authors as characters, An Expert in Murder shares some kinship with literary revisions like Geoff Ryman's Was (retelling The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) and Dan Simmons' Drood (portraying Wilkie Collins and Charles Dickens).
