The reviews were glowing, so I added it to my library request list. When it showed up (pretty quickly!) and I read the dustjacket, I wondered how good it would really be. A novel about a missing child, a stripper who thinks of her life as a movie, punks, runaways, awkward teens, and a comic book artist set in Vegas? It sounded like an entertaining read but not necessarily a really good one. But I loved this book. The switches between characters worked really well, it never got too hipster-novelist for me, and the characters were drawn well overall. It basically takes place in one night (with lots of flashbacks and flashforwards), shifting perspective from character to character to explain what happened the night Newell Ewing disappeared. Definitely a worthwhile read. I almost gave it 5 stars, but I think it's a solid 4.5/5
