This is an excellent book! It is hard to believe that this is a FIRST BOOK for this fine author. I read it in one day and found it to be thoroughly enjoyable. Look forward to her next book.

Note: NEVER EXPECT AN ALCOHOLIC, ABUSER TO CHANGE. Characters: Calli, little 6 yr. old girl who doesn't speak due to the abusive, alcoholic father; Petra, Calli's good friend who talks FOR HER; Ben is Calli's brother, age 12; Antonia is mom; Griff is the alcoholic/abusive dad; Louis, the deputy sheriff who was once Antonia's lover and was her childhood special friend; Martin, college prof and father of Petra; Fielda, Petra's mom; Christine is deputy Louis' wife; Tanner is deputy Louis' young son; Lucky is a student of the prof who came to him in dispare over money and needing a job.

Both girls are missing presumably in the massive forest surrounding their homes. They are believed to be lost and or abducted (a young girl was recently raped and murdered in the vacinity).

Please read this very good book~!
