I liked this one. If I could have, I would have given it 3.5 stars. It reminded me of Freedom in some ways---but more of a Freedom lite. Similar basic plot-line; Seemingly happy and normal family - each family member is messed up - big tragedy - parents seperate - will they or won't they live happily ever after. It didn't read formulaic though, and Puchner's writing is super clever and laugh out loud funny, until people start catching on fire (literally). I think other reviews have stated how this is pretty much a humorous book, but then crap happens and all of the sudden you realize these aren't just funny people. You really do care about them. And care about them you do, all the way to heart-breaking ending that leaves you to make your own conclusion. I wasn't upset about the ending; I think it was better than Franzen's neat little bow, but it certainly left me with a big hole in my heart.
