Merit's life as a vampire and Sentinel of the Cadogan House continues to grow throughout this book. If you followed my status updates as I read, I went from "finally!" to "Ugh! Stupid boys!" (even if they are vampire boys!) to "Hhhmmm..." by the end.

While there was a plot, involving the potential of alliances with shapeshifters and an assassination plot, the core of this book, for me, was Merit and Ethan's relationship in all its craziness and intrigue and wtf moments. It's a love/hate sort of relationship not just for the two of them, but for me as a reader, but I'm definitely interested to see where things go based on the end of the book.

Without giving anything away, considering the Apex's prophecies, I wonder if Merit was always destined to become a vampire.

My one issue: I love Merit, I do. But it seems that *everyone* outside of the one "evil" vampire, seems to love her and think she is so awesome. Can we have some more people who aren't automatically in awe and love of Merit.

Can't wait for the next one! I need to see how things progress!
