I definitely gained some insight into the nature of death, viruses, placebos and outer space. I found the rest a bit ho-hum, with the section on life being a bit of a disappointment -- it was more a boring semantic debate on what constitutes life than the analysis of the existence of life I expected. The author is very bright, but uses too many witty paragraph introductions and one-liners. Far too witty for his own good I'm afraid. I came out of this book with a firmer grasp of where science is, more general trivia knowledge under my belt, but many questions still unanswered, which keeps the book's title true to form.
