This is a fun series for teen readers with likable characters. The writing isn't wonderful, but it's not awful, either. And the books are clean, consistently full of adventure and positive themes. Readers will like Will, the apprentice ranger with a gift for woodcraft and resourcefulness. I loved the setting, Medieval era with knights, vikings, eastern steppe raiders, desert types and all; wrapped up in a believable story. Each book stands well on it's own, but depends on the development from the previous volume. I've read 7 of them so far, and look forward to the rest. It's light reading but satisfying.
