The Woods
by Harlan Coben
by Harlan Coben
I can't really fault Harlan Coben. You know exactly what you're going to get with one of his books, and you're never disappointed (I hope that doesn't come back to haunt me, lol). He has a particular style; something bad happens, everyone moves on to one extent or another, then years later something occurs to make the main character realise that there's more to the original event than meets the eye. Some people have being keeping things to themselves and will go to whatever lengths they need to in order to keep the past buried. A few wisecracks, a bit of romance, a few appearances from characters from HC's other novels and several twists and turns (including a couple of smoke screens) later, we arrive at a satisfying conclusion. It's a bit like Sunday dinner; you know what to expect, you always enjoy it, and when you've finished you can sit back with a warm feeling of contentment (as long as it isn't your turn to wash up). I'm happy to report that "The Woods" is a fine thriller - easy to read, hard to put down. Don't ever change Harlan, we love you just the way you are.
