I only got through the first three plays and found them depressing as hell. Given that they were written over 40 years ago when generations did not see eye to eye, I suppose Shepard's popularity is understandable. I just didn't find alcoholic characters and a fantasy about a dead child who had issued from incest returning to haunt the family very uplifting. Did I miss some inner meaning?
