Totally just wanted to check this book out and wasn't intending to read it the whole way through. Priorities, you know. But it totally hooked me! What has this book got for the reading writer? Character. Holm sets up character expert within reaction (and interaction) of her first person protagonist and in no time flat. It is a second, third fourth book? idk but that is always something that I love to hear. When a book knocks my socks off like this and I discover how many others this author has under their belt. It makes this excellence a goal, achievable with practice. I also loveed the historical aspect of this book. I loved the boys' gang and how everyone wanted the chance to be with the babies. I think I read it all in one night. I was completely taken. I love when a literary, character driven book can do that, I just cared about these characters.
