REVIEW COMPLETE
Beastly was, for me, the perfect romance novel. I am generally not a fan of romance - in fact, I tend to despise it - but I received a strong recommendation from a close friend with good taste in books and decided to purchase it on iBooks, feeling I had nothing to lose (my weekends are pretty boring). I was immediately hooked, and stayed up all night reading it - mainly because my parents forced me away from television on which I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean (the S in my pen name stands for Sparrow, as in Captain Jack Sparrow). I finished the book within twenty-four hours (and then finished watching The Curse of the Black Pearl).
In my opinion? The only thing that needs some work is the dialogue, specifically Kyle/Adrian's lines. Let's just say they leave some to be desired. But I loved that, rather than devoting an entire book to romance (and the mindless premarital sex that tends to accompany it in this sort of young adult romance novel), the main themes are self-improvement, and inner beauty rather than focusing on outward appearance. I also loved the author's sense of humor.
Oh, and one more thing I didn't like, but this was my own fault. Every time I tried to picture Kyle/Adrian in human form, he was shirtless (that I didn't so much mind), and every time I tried to picture him in beast form, he looked like Chewbacca. And then I'd try to picture kissing him and...*shudder*. But I'm probably just really shallow.
Anyways, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to go watch How To Train Your Dragon for the fourth time this weekend.
