This is a book I was not expecting to like. In fact, the only reason I picked this up was because I needed an audio book and this is the only downloadable one on my library's website that I was halfway interested in. I was just expecting to just have something to listen to while doing housework and running errands. This book grabbed me from the first few words. I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility when I read it in high school and this one stayed true to the original character of the book with the exception of the sea monsters. I was expecting the sea monster parts to be far-fetched and that they would stand out too much from the original prose. The sea monsters were indeed far-fetched but not too crazy. The sea monster scenes blended in well with the story. The language of the scenes was very Austen-like. The audiobook was incredibly enjoyable and I found myself laughing out loud many times, mainly due to the narration. The narrator delivered everything in the same calm tone of voice which made the sea monster parts even more hilarious than the prose alone.

I would recommend this book to people who like literature parodies. If you are expecting to laugh and have a good time this book is for you. If you like Jane Austen, but are not above reading her social commentary blended with good old sea monster fun this book is for you. I would not recommend it for someone who is expecting a paranormal book because even with the sea monsters it is light on what one expects from paranormal literature. Also, if you are expecting the book to go into how the Alteration happened you will be disappointed. This is a nice light read. I am looking forward to trying Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
