Quantum Prophecy: The Awakening was a good start to a potentially good series. The concept reminded me a little bit of the TV show Heroes, and this aspect is what lured me in. The main characters of this book are 13 year old boys who have just discovered that they are a little bit more than normal. Having them be so young left me with mixed feelings. It’s hard for me to connect to such young characters but at the same time, I really enjoyed watching them discover themselves.

Colin and Danny are both likable, smart-ass children, yet at the same time they differ a lot from each other. Colin is a remarkably brave character who does the best he can do in the situations that he has been put in. He is intelligent and goodhearted, strong willed and compassionate. Danny is more tainted by the unfolding of events. He has been deceived and is more of a target than Colin. Because of these things, you can see Danny struggle with his new abilities as well as his emotions as he tries to overcome the unfortunate events that arise.

My only complaint is that I think some of the shocking twists and turns were revealed too early in the book. Discovering certain people’s true identities was exciting, but would have had more of an effect had they been sprinkled throughout the novel instead of offered in one serving within the first few chapters.

Overall, I gave this book a 3.5 star rating. It’s a good book, and a quick read. I plan on reading the next book in the series, and hopefully the writing will be on an incline and continue to get better and better with each book.
