Creepy, but not as creepy as I was expecting from what others have said! I've never read a book like this before, the whole fantasy P.I. thing, so I wasn't sure what to expect...it's definitely different from anything I've read before, though nothing so original it shocked me. I tend to stray away from books like this because I like books that focus on more than one character, and John was basically the only true character in the whole book. Suzie Shooter shows up for a few seconds, but basically has no role. I know it's only the first book in the series, but I don't like to feel like my main character is alone in things. If this book had been written BY a woman ABOUT a woman, I guarantee she'd have at LEAST three guys vying for her attention and willing to lay down their lives to protect her at any moment, but since it's BY a man ABOUT a man, well, it's not like that. Not that I WANT it to be like that, but I'm just saying.

I wasn't exactly surprised by the twist, but it did kind of sadden me and I felt so bad for John. He's really the only character I like at this point in time. I don't dislike Suzie, but I feel pretty much nothing for her, since we know nothing about her as of this book. John is a likable character, and seems to be really the only honorable character in the series.

I can't wait to learn more about the Nightside and all its weirdness, though. Sure, some of the things were icky, but not enough to scar me for life or anything (yet). The only thing I noticed personally was that I don't find Green's humor funny. I know when a comment is made that is supposed to be funny (like Alex saying his wife being dead is only wishful thinking) but it just isn't my type of humor, I guess. I suppose I really only like sarcasm, and this book has a very sad lack of sarcasm going on, boohoo. But I don't read these for the humor; I read them because they're weird and because I like to learn about all the weird-ass creatures Green has and has yet to create. Plus, it's about a man, and I've had just about enough of female lead characters to last a lifetime, since I can 99% of the time NEVER understand where they're coming from or WHY they can't simply choose ONE boyfriend. Okay, getting off topic.

I wasn't going to write a review for this. In fact, the first sentence of this review is all I'd planned on writing, but then I just kept typing. What does that say about this book? I guess that it interests me enough to want to review it, and, for once, NOT because it pissed me off so much I had to rant about it.
