The book is well written, the action non-stop, the pace furious and the characters well defined. I was immediately hooked. These are the reasons I gave this book 4 stars. The reasons I didn't give it 5: about 60% of the way through I started skimming. The plot, a family running from some kind of plague or 'aura' that turns everyone into a killer, began to feel unbelievable and far fetched, for me anyway. It felt repetitive; at every turn the family tackles a band of killers,
conveniently assisted in some instances by various things (deliberately vague to avoid spoilers). The violence turned me off a little, too.

I did like the unexpected and quite emotional ending, although I thought it came abruptly. Blake Crouch is no doubt an excellent author. I'm still thinking about this book, I'm not sure why. Even though I didn't enjoy it as much as others I've read, something about it sticks.
