I am completely blown away by this book. Scheeres' story is gut-wrenching, vivid, and told so beautifully, with such grace and courage. I sat down to begin it at 11:30, and here I am at 3am, just agape. Her story is all the more incredible for being true. To think I had trouble yesterday reading the fictional goings-on of a 19th century London madhouse and today I'm struggling to stomach the real horrors of a 20th century born-again Christian reform school in the Caribbean. It never would've occurred to me that such a place existed. Most of all, I never would've ever guessed at such an ending to the story.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
