** spoiler alert ** Just got this and read it today. I think this was DC's attempt at an "Ultimate" universe. I liked it, but it was too much like a script. There was no interior monologue. There were flash backs and and one sided dialogues with deceased but no insight into the character. Now as I right this, it was leading us to connect with Clark in a different way. Here was a Clark Kent who didn't hide his abilities away at first. We see Kent the Athlete, Kent the businessman, Kent the scientist, before we see Kent the hero. What JMS has done with the character is let him choose his destiny -- he doesn't want to be a hero. He doesn't want to be different. But he steps up when he sees that he has to be. I'm changing this to 4 stars, just because it was different. This is another facet of the character that hasn't really been developed before. I wonder if this will influence the next movie...
