Really fantastic book...and yes, I bought all the rest of them last night! I can't wait to read more, but I can't imagine any of them being as powerful as Lucan's story...

My Review:
Loved, LoVeD, LOVED this book! I can already tell you that this is going to be a favorite series. And it's even better because this is our discussion book over at Chick-lits blog book club this month (March- come join us- the chat starts tomorrow- it's not too late to go out and read this book.)
Lara Adrian has created a world of vampires. There are 2 sides to this world- Breeds and Rogues. Rogues are former Breeds that have become addicted to bloodlust. There is a group of warrior Breeds who set out to "take care" of the Rogues. Lucan is a Gen One (1st generation) Breed- he's really old and he's the one who created the warrior Breeds group for eradicating the Rogues. Unfortunately, as a Gen One, bloodlust is a constant battle and as the book begins, Lucan is losing his fight against it.
All vampires are males and so they need Breedmates. Breedmates all have a natural birthmark that they are born with which shows them to be compatible with vampires.
Gabrielle is a photographer. She goes out to a club to celebrate a successful showing with friends, but leaves early because she is uncomfortable at the club. As she leaves, she witnesses a gang (and extremely gruesome) murder. The problem is, no one believes her and there is no sign, besides some blurry photos on her phone, that it ever happened.
The murder was committed by 6 Rogues caught up in bloodlust and Lucan caught all but 1 which is how he ends up with Gabrielle, posing as a police detective, to obtain her photos. He immediately feels the pull to Gabrielle and quickly discovers that, unknown to her, she is a Breedmate.
This story and world is so rich and full of details. From Gabrielle's start in life to her life as a photographer...vampires have always been a part of her world...she just never realized it. She's had to be a really strong person to survive, and she has survived, even thrived through her beautiful photography.
Lucan is a tortured soul- 1st with the ongoing battle against the bloodlust that he's trying to overcome. 2nd with the undeniable draw that he feels for Gabrielle that he doesn't want to give into. But she is a Breedmate and one that is in danger so he can't just abandon her.
This world of warrior Breeds is full of strong alpha males. They each get their own book in this series (so far, there are 9 books) and I hear that they are all as good or better than this first one. I cannot wait to read them all....

I have heard that Tegan's story is most people's favorite, I think it's book 3 or 4. I can't wait to read it!

I could see how Tegan's would be really good...he is definitely a tortured soul. I am looking forward to it!!
I think so. I am not sure I will be able to resist it, but I really should try to spread these out...for the good of my family, and I think that it would be better to wait for our discussion too. BUT I am not very good at resisting my books when they are just sitting there waiting for me to dive in... ;o)
LOL! For the good of your family:) I love that! Well, my family will be gone on Tuesday so I plan on reading morning, noon, and night while he's gone! I guess I gotta fit some crafty time in there too;)
I was wondering how soon he was going... :o( That was the one positive about Ben being gone...no one to know when I stayed up all night reading a book (which is what I did with the Brotherhood books...I read those all in a week with NO BREAKS! hehe! I have issues with crafty time too. When I have a project that needs to get done, I reward myself with a chapter after 30 minutes of time doing whatever I need to get done. LOL! I get a LOT done on those days!!
Yeah it's frustrating, IPR still doesn't have his tickets so we still don't know what day exactly. We just know what day he has to be boots on ground. I'm hoping that my books and pups will keep me company:)
Okay chickie, I'm off to bed! Chat again soon:) Love you!
so.... did you chicks keep reading in the series... I had #2 in my cart last night and didn't get it. but I REALLY want to!!
Amber talked me out of reading it until we at least start our chat about #1. I have all the rest of them sitting next to my stamp table taunting me...and I WILL be reading them next week!!! ;o)
I know, right?!?! And I peeked at the goodreads ratings...they ALL rate higher than #1...I can't even imagine them actually being better!?!
I am thinking that we will be chatting soon...I am just going to miss it. We are going out of town tomorrow early and won't be back until Sunday so you all can't have too much amazing chat until I get back. ;o)
wow! I can't wait!!!!!! (but I will.) So exciting finding a new series... especially one that so far, I've liked as much or more than some of my very favorite books.
Pretty sure that sentence is NOT grammatically correct.. but oh well... it has been one of THOSE weeks for me! LOL
Okay girls, I'm going to post our first question today! I *have* to go golfing with Billy today so when we get back I'll post our first question! Sorry it's taken so long, wanted to make sure most people were done, lol!
SO worth it, Kristy! I just got the next book in the series... saving it for a bit longer... but I did start April's book.. Hollowland... wow! it is different but I am really enjoying it so far... about half way through... not sure that Vicki will be able to read this one either! it's got a lot of zombies... :)
Ooh, I don't think I have ever read a zombie book. I have Aprils book but won't read it for another couple of weeks. Glad it's heating up for you Kristy!
I'm so glad you're liking Hollowland Brooke..I was a little unsure about picking that one, but I knew it would be completely different from anything anyone in the group had read and that was why I chose it..Plus it just has a great story to it..:) I do feel bad about Vicki though LOL..when I picked it I didn't realize they gave her nightmares...AMBER!! Hugs to you and spend lots of time with your man this weekend!!
