I added this after reading the article you posted about the translator, Anthea Bell.

I thought I had an ARC but maybe the buyer said she was still looking for it(or had already passed it on-I can't remember lol)

'tis true! Someone just "congratulated" me for having a friend who works at Powell's! :)

Linda I must say the whole house is littered with ARCs & I currently have 5 books checked out from work so yeah my job is pretty cool and I try to spread that to my friends and family. Books are for sharing-that's for sure :D

She didn't even know you shared. She just knew you worked at Powells!! :)

Linda I have a former co-worker who works at The Strand in New York & I think thats pretty cool. He's always reading amazing stuff like David Foster Wallace-things I've tried and couldn't do. Like people who actually ready Ulysses or Finnegan's Wake. When I lived in LA I always wondered about the people who worked in stores like Book Soup or Vroman's which are 2 indie stores that back then were so cool-too cool. My life as a bookseller would have been complete if only I could have worked there! I guess its all a matter of degrees. It is nice to be able to say I work the cool kids now though after being a geek for so long-lol.
