I read THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and found it an amusing escapist read, and assumed that this would fall along similar lines. It does. The protagonists are three young, successful, attractive women living in New York who are disappointed with their mostly perfect lives.

The three women meet one evening for drinks after one of them gets dumped by her fiancee. (I can't remember their names, and I don't have the book anymore.) Her friends make her promise that for a year, she's going to make an effort to sleep with a lot of different men. Her friend A promises to go a different route, to try her hand at monogamy. The third doesn't make a promise at first, but agrees to change something too.

The women make progress of varying degrees on their goals. A gets a boyfriend. E sleeps with different men. L meets a hot young author who tempts her away from her almost-perfect guy Russell. The three women have hot sex with handsome men, and drink lots of alcohol in glamorous locations. They trip into good fortune, end up with Mr. Rights, and learn something about themselves along the way.

I haven't read a lot of books like this, and I can understand what they call it escapist fiction. The protagonists live blessed lives, filled with sexy men and effortless career success. They learn something about themselves through their trials, but their trials pose only mild conflict and their introspection isn't very deep. We don't want to learn from them so much as we want to BE them. Despite that, or because of that, I enjoyed it.
