Nothing I read about Firefly Lane could have prepared me for the moving story of Tully and Kate. Sure, I've read other books that were emotionally charged and brought me to tears. Several of them were also written by Kristin Hannah. She's a genius at writing human stories that make it impossible not to feel the emotions right along with her characters. This one though...this is an immeasurably touching depiction of family love & strife, career choices, and undying friendship. I haven't read a more profound fictional portrayal of those real life issues before. I'll be thinking about this book and these characters for some time. It will be that difficult to leave them behind.

Antof9 My neighbor -- who doesn't read a ton, but when she does reads mysteries -- loaned me that book, and I felt the same way. I thought it was so amazing and wonderfully done! It really moved me. Not a title I'll quickly forget.

Danielle What else would you recommend by her? I absolutely loved this book!! Couldn't put it down. I felt they were two lifelong friends of my own. Kristin Hannah did a phenomenal job.

I've read 15 of her books and my other 5-star book was True Colors. I LOVED it. Touching, but not the tearjerker that Firefly Lane is.

Antof9 I haven't read anything else of hers -- thanks for the reco!

Danielle The librarian at my local library told me that Night Road is her most recent one that she absolutely loved. I am on a quest to find a book as compelling as Firefly Lane. You think True Colors could do the job?

Antof9 I already requested True Colors from the library :)

Wow! You are really on top of things. Roberta gave me her copy to read. So, she really liked it as well!

Antof9 I just like to request them when I'm told about them. Otherwise, I forget :)

Danielle -- I recently read another book on women's friendship I really liked. It's called "Attachments" by Rainbow Rowell. It's chick lit, but SMART chicklit. Also funny and clean, which really makes it hardly chicklit at all. The author writes for a newspaper, and my opinion on people who write daily is that they just write better. They are in a unique place to hone their crafts, and they really do. (another example of that is Marley & Me -- written by a newsman, and it was superbly written, in my opinion. I don't even like dogs!) Anyway, it's clever and engaging and I wanted to be friends with the women in it. Other friends I've recommended it to have felt the same way.

Well, I REALLY found it to be an excellently told story! I have yet to read Night Road, but I'm certain I will in time. She writes emotionally charged novels that it takes time to recover from!
