bookshelves: fantasy, cat, magic, coming-out
Read from March 10 to 15, 2011

This book is both a coming out and a coming of age story, set in a the fantasy world of the Oligarchs and their powers. Dylan, the son of an Oligarch, has to find the mysterious murderer who is stealing away other Oligarchs' power with the help of Kio, his talking cat, and Tyjinn. All of them are likeable characters and the boys' evolution, especially Dylan's, is remarkable. It's a real page-turner and the plot is full of nice turns you don't see coming. Self-acceptance and courage are two essential motifs, and the fantastic adventure an allegory of the quest gay men often have to undertake to find peace within themselves and with the world. I recommend this book to everyone!
