I really enjoyed the first half of this book, and the book as a whole was a good read, but I felt like the plot was kind of flat. What I mean is, there wasn't a lot of rising action or much of a climax. The story is pretty steady throughout. This could be because this was the first book of a trilogy. I have a feeling when I'm done with all three books I'll be able to look back on this one and see it really as one third of a larger novel (just as FotR is really just one third of the LotR saga). I enjoyed the story and I liked the main character, Paks, a lot. I've already started Book 2 and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
