I love Hornby's quick and clever writing style, he has plenty of insight into daily social interactions and human nature. The main character in this novel, however, was quite lacking in anything worth writing about. It was tedious reading about how she couldn't cope with her husband's spiritual conversion. The entire novel was plotted around her whining and inability to intelligently respond to anything her husband said or did. While I understand Hornby was going for a realistic story, which included a very dull and unsatisfying realistic ending, there was little to compensate for the bleak, cynical, and boring plotline.
