** spoiler alert ** This book had lots of fine adventure and was enjoyable to read. I did get tired, however, of Hornblower's wishy washy worrying and torment over his wife and his love for Lady Barbara. And then he sleeps with a third woman! I just didn't really buy this sudden change of character into someone who has such a lack of self control in this one huge area. This was not the same Hornblower who refused Barbara's advances at the end of the last book and it wasn't a very endearing change. Honestly, it felt to me like this was all something thought up by the author in order to make a choppy transition from one book to another that was written by the author years prior. I have been reading the books in chronological order for Hornblower which is not the same order they were written in.
