For the last couple of weeks I have been reading the book So B. It. Sarah Weeks did an outstanding job on grabbing my attention and pulling me in, especially when she got to the climax and talked about the difficulties Heidi’s mother has. I enjoyed her excellent word choice and her voice. She really showed her skill in this selection.
Heidi and her disabled mother move into Hilltop Homes when Heidi is just a newborn. Heidi’s mother is mentally disabled and struggles to take care of Heidi by herself. But when Heidi’s neighbor Bernadette notices them, she is willing to help Heidi’s mother and Heidi as well. Bernadette takes care of Heidi and her mother and soon becomes like one of their family members. As Heidi grows, she soon begins to get interested in where she came from and who her family is.
Since Heidi’s mother is disabled she cannot speak many words. She can only speak simple words such as, hot, more, many, etc. So her mother does not understand many things Heidi tries to explain. So will Heidi ever find out where she came from and who her realities are?
This book is a unique dramatic/ reality novel. It was interesting to discover the many disadvantages of a disabled character, such as when Heidi’s mother struggles to learn words or even understand what some words ment. So if you are not into the dramatic/ reality selections, you will probably not enjoy this book, but I, however, happened to love the author’s portrayal of dramatic situations. You learn some many interesting things, like for example, how to communicate with people that have disadvantages. So I would definitely recommend this book to other young readers!
