bookshelves: debauched-intellectualism, must-read
Read in January, 1999

Honestly, It's been the better part of a decade since I read this. I just saw it and felt like slapping some stars on it.

Overall opinion:
A little self-conscious and juvenile; too macho and not particularly scandalous.
It was a groundbreaking book, though, and even now, though, I find myself referring back to it. More than anything, I'm glad for the things it influenced, like Lawrence Durrell's Justine.
