Read while on a trip to Italy. This book was fascinating for it's snapshot of a not-so-distant past where women had no rights and "the west" thought the "middle east" was a place it could mold like putty. Depressing as hell as it reminds you just how much of the current Iraq war is like the last several hundreds years of known history, and how foolish that all makes anyone with a brain. Not to mention the whole women have no brains part. Seemingly well researched, sometimes annoying for it's preachiness, but overall well worth the read.
