Beautiful story. I've seen the novel in verse concept used for stories about immigrants many times over and it works well consistently, but the device is put to particularly good use here. I love that we get to know Ha and her family in Vietnam, and have a real sense of who they are before the family escapes to Alabama - it allows the changes in their lives to resonate more deeply.
