Marrying the Captain is a touching love story. Kelly does a wonderful job developing the characters, even the secondary characters, with very little fanfare or detail. The first half of the the book develops the characters and romance, establishes the setting, and sets up the secondary suspense plot. The second half of the book resolves the romance and takes the lovers through a few tense scenes dealing with the war. Some of the action toward the end stretches credulity, but it doesn't go over the top so I was able to enjoy it.
I appreciate that Kelly doesn't suddenly change the characters when they fall in love. Both know life doesn't hold any certainties. Marrying the Captain is an excellent book and I look forward to the next in the series, The Surgeon's Lady.
