The book is a collection of correspondence between Helene Hanff in NYC and the staff (in particular Mr. Frank Doel) of a London bookstore, beginning in 1949 and spanning 20 years. This is a slim volume, less than 200 pages; however it is surprisingly moving. Really, this book might make you tear up a bit. It did me. What starts as a simple, formal request for a few books becomes a real and lovely friendship, due in no small part to Hanff’s wit and generosity.

Greta This one sounds really good. I just requested it from the library.
