It's hard to not give this more stars, because I LOVED certain things about this book-- SOME of main character's concerns and questions are certainly my own. And reading certain passages felt like flying! But I have to admit I was bored through a lot of it, too, and on top of that, constantly dogged by the feeling that it/he was just sort of over my head.... or in another dimension altogether. It is somehow deeply personal and generic(/existential) at the same time. BUT anyway, I kept flipping ahead to see how much more I had to go. I guess the thing that kept me w/ it was my need for some kind of resolution. Given what comes before, the ending is exactly right--perfect. And I felt happy for him for the first time.
