Annie Dunne

by Sebastian Barry
This introspective, dense novel features the inner musings of an Irish spinster. She lives with another spinster as sort of a bond servant on a farmstead in the Irish country side. Two children somehow related to her come to live with them for the summer, and their arrival plus the unexpected attentions of a local handyman upset Annie Dunne's world. The action is limited to everyday occurrences however the language is very descriptive and might appeal to those who like slow-paced character focused novels.
