Wow. I read this on recommendation from my sister, and granted, I am not totally well-versed in my US History anymore, but I was amazed at Melba's experience as being one of the "little central 9" in trying to integrated. Not only was the treatment she received amazing, but I so appreciated her grandmother's advice in holding your head high no matter what life throws at you. I loved the theme of warriors don't cry, but overall, what a memoir. Not a super long book, but very interesting.
