Excellent - I think Salinger would have approved (well, as much as he ever did). Slawenski sticks pretty much with a straight recounting of the facts and (other than his own interpretations of the stories and books, which are OK as far as they go, but certainly not definitive) pretty much stays out of the way authorially and lets those facts speak for themselves rather than trying to impose his own view on them. The attitude thoroughout is worshipful, but he doesn't let that get in the way either. It's a book that obviously has enormous respect for its subject and (as a Salinger acolyte myself) I appreciated that.
