Read in March, 2011

Edited by Richard Russo and Heidi Pitlor, this is a fine collection of stories, many first seen in The New Yorker, Tin House, The Atlantic, and McSweeney's. Especially liked Louren Groff's "Delicate Edible Birds" and Maggie Shipstead's "Cowboy Tango." Actually I liked all the entries. I'd never heard of many of the writers (many of whom are professors in MFA programs or fellows in libraries). Intrigued and will seek more from Steve Almond, Marlin Barton, Wells Tower and Lori Ostlund. The stories run the gamut from memoir to science fiction to elegiac remembering.
