I have to admit I had my reservations about this book. I loved the premise of it but I had a really hard time getting into it. Being determined to finish it, I trudged my way through. About two-thirds of the way into the book, it really started to pick up. I think the first two-thirds was meant to build the scene and set the stage for what turned out to be a really great and emotional ending.

The characters were very well written and believable. I enjoyed traveling through their journey with them. The events in the story were realistic and at times quite emotional. If anything I wish the author had created a bit more passion or attraction between Anna and Tyler. There were some small moments between them, though.

Anna’s relationship with her dad was very well written, although, as I said, the author takes quite a bit of time building it up.

Overall, it wasn’t a book that hooked me from the start, but I am glad I took the time to see it through and finish it. For most of the book I was considering a two star rating, but the ending pulled it up to three stars for me.

A good debut novel for author Jessi Kirby.

By the way, LOVE the cover!!!
