"Jesus," he said between breaths, "Je-sus."
"Amen to that."
A very impressive start to the series. The story line was fresh and intriguing with a surprising ending. The characters and their relationships were well-constructed and entertaining.
Arcadia Bell, a magician, was a likable character with an interesting background.
Her love interest, Lon Butler, had that mysterious Jericho Barrons type vibe going for him when first introduced. That quickly changed once his character became more involved and the two fell in lust.
Lon has a teenage son who was a wonderful addition to the story. It's not often in urban fantasy that the protagonist or the love interest has a child and I appreciate that the author kept him involved in the story line instead of brushing him aside.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised that this book turned out so well and was able to bypass the dreaded First Book Syndrome. I will definitely continue to follow this series.
"I ... uh ..." My heart hammered. "Jupe told me that you thought I was too young for you."
He stepped forward again, dragging the open book along the edge of the desk. "Hmm ... I don't recall saying that."
"Memory loss is the first sign of aging."
"Amen to that."

the crax]zy thing is i bought sooo many books on my sabbatical l and i havent been able to talk to my favorite ladies..I missed yal too!!
Glad your back! I just picked up good books too. I feel like a kid in a candy store while at the bookstore ;)
That's awesome! I wish we had a discount bookstore here...Ok so check this out ladies: I'm not sure how your cable tv works but I'm starting to watch next weeks T.B. episode right now! It said at the end tonight it was available, and I looked it up on listings and I can watch it now, so I'm sure it's available for you ladies in your neck of the woods as well.
Omg Cat!!!!! That was a really Really good episode. When Eric walked into the witches coven he looked so bad-ass. What did you think of it? At the end when Sookie was in her car trying to get his attention I just wanted to wrap him in my "bosom" LOL and tell him I'll take him home ;)

I must say, I'm really starting to hate Sam.
Cat- When he took his foot and extinguished the flame of the candles in his own arrogant, and confident way my jaw dropped. Even Lafayette recognizes Eric's bad-ass at it's finest. Please share why your hating Sam? Because I always hate Sam lol.
Okay how ridiculous was it when Arlene popped a blood vessel????? The baby looked sweet and giggly, that whole storyline is plain "Stupid"!!!!
Well unfortunately for me everytime i try to watch it I cant get past the first 30 min...then it freezes...grrrr!!!!!!!1
Oh, I havn't seen the episode yet.Havn't had time to.Blimey! It seems I will not be dissappointed.I hate Sam too.Never liked him in the book but in the series he makes me cringe. I hope Sookie doesn't end up with Sam or else i will be very cross.
Sorry Vain, I missed that question about Sam. I'm just disliking his attitude toward his brother. They were both in the wrong but Sam has been a complete dick so far.
Ya Sam has been a complete Dick too! I agree Cat.I love it when Samina gets upset because her angry words seem so sweet like now she says if Sookie ends up with Sam she's going to be "Cross" LOL ;)

LOL!!!
I agree with you Cat...Sam is being a dick
Samina...Im praying for Sookie not to be with Sam!!
I'm praying for Sookie to be with Eric ;) however if it must be a shifter even though I have my reservations about both of these men I would chose Quinn or Alcide over Sam anyday! ;)
Okay - "mysterious Jericho Barrons type vibe going for him when first introduced." That's all I need to hear. Just downloaded it to my Kindle :)
I was surprised to hear that the protagonist has a child as well. That could be fun :) It worked out well with Kate and Currans (adopted child) I really enjoyed her as well. This book sounds very interesting, I'm going to pick up.
Oh and I almost forgot....Just you mentioning Jerricho Barrons has me nit only sold on this book but a little bit weak in the knees as well...;) *sigh*
How funny we commented at same time lol. Our minds are alike, ar the mention of Jerricho Barrons my ears perk up like a dog in heat;) LOL
LOL! There is no way that you will love Lon as much as Barrons but he does start out with a lot of similarities.I'm sure you ladies will like this book.
People,Jericho Z Barrons is mine and mine alone. Keep your hands off him.LOL!
I don't like Sam at all, however I reckon the series is going in that direction. I would hate it.That is why I stopped reading the books as soon as Sookie got together with Eric.I would'nt want anything soiling my fantasy about Eric being happy with Sookie. ( well,if I can't have Eric I just might as well let Sookie have him)
I ahven't been on the Intenet for so long let alone GR has anyone heard anything about the sex scene from Barrons POV?Is is out yet?
Perhaps I should keep getting 'cross' now and then for you guys!
No - KMM said that she had, sadly, been going through a divorce, and hadn't been able to write it yet. She said that once things settle down, she will give us our sex scene :)YUM :)
I read that in her GR blog update a little while ago. It was very sad to read. Authors are people and go through the same difficulties the rest of us deal with. Hopefully it was not a messy divorce and she can move on soon. :(
Mariya wrote: "ooohhhh! you're famous....hahaha. the author totally quoted your review on her blog. cool =DDDDD"That's awesome! Thank you for pointing that out! I never would have seen it and then missed all of my opportunities to brag.
