I'm having a tough time figuring out exactly what I thought of this book. The whole beginning section, with Lestat's fascination with the latest victim he was stalking, and then his subsequent conversation with the victim? That part I can read over and over again. But then...but then...

I just couldn't identify with anyone after that part. It all came across as manipulative, and God Himself just seemed petty. Maybe I was reacting to the fact that this was supposed to be Rice's final story about Lestat. Maybe her portrayal of the history of God and the Devil was too radical for me to be comfortable with, but not radical ENOUGH to be all that interesting.

Anyway, I should probably read this one again to get some new insight. In the intervening years Anne Rice has gone entirely over to Christianity, and has now given up on it in disgust. I wonder if she'll take up vampires again.

Deb Kathryn-

It's been a while since I read this. I read it when it first came out and have read a couple more times since then. I remember loving it because of the interesting twist Rice had on the history of God and the Devil. I didn't agree with it, but I have always wanted to discuss this book in a book club or anywhere. Maybe I will re-read it again. Because, you know, I have all of the time in the world right now. :D
