I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did! I need to stop pre-judging books that way. I actually really loved it and now want to see the movie! I was a little put-off by the whole aliens-from-outer-space angle, as that's not usually my thing at all, but then it's about so much more than just that. For a start, "John" (as Number Four is known) is on earth, going to a regular high school, making friends and enemies and a girlfriend... so you have your typical high school YA type book. But then he happens to be an alien as well, so I guess there's that sort of paranormal spin as well, WHICH USUALLY I DO NOT LIKE, but in this case it was pretty cool? I don't know. I just enjoyed this, that's all. Although the huge battle at the end... some of that was a bit too much? Like the whole book was the build-up to this epic battle scene, where you have seven months pass in 200-odd pages, and then a couple of hours for the rest.

Although OMG I actually started to tear up when John was speaking to the last beast, the one who was all scared and resentful of being forced to fight. AND THREE CHEERS FOR BERNIE KOSAR!! (Second) best dog name EVER by the way. I had him figured from the start as well.

I kept thinking some things could have been laid out and explained a little more as well, but by the end that didn't matter so much. I'm not really an outer-space type of girl though there have been a few other things I've enjoyed... actually a lot of Australian childrens' stuff: The Distant Home, Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left, Ocean Girl, etc.

I'm glad Sam went along with them - I adored Sam! He reminded me SO much of this new boy at work, who looks about 12 and is absolutely lovely and well-spoken, small and skinny and nerdy... and who I now have to make sure I don't start calling Sam.

Anyway, am I going to read the sequel? Hells yes I am!

Sandra I'm glad you ended up liking it :D (You liked it better than me, it seems. ;) ) I think the next book should be more kick ass though, after all, Six is awesome..

SJH (A Dream of Books) I loved this book too and the movie's pretty great as well. You definitely have to read The Power of Six!

Sally Next time I do another Amazon shop! It's up there :D
