This book could have been so much better than it was. The story was very good: a very recently sober woman who leaves L.A. with her daughter after her boyfriend's recent death and hits the road to backwoods Cayro, Georgia, the town she left a decade ago, fleeing her violent husband, and abandoning her two baby daughters. The characters in this book, felt exactly like "characters"; there is the unforgiving Pentecostal God-fearing mother in law, the sassy, gum snapping best friend, the uptight woman who wear lace collars to church etc. Coming from the same author who wrote Bastard out of Carolina, I expected more; and not what felt like a formulated novel.
