A few weeks back I mentioned that I generally don’t like mysteries. Well, this is the third mystery I’ve read in recent weeks that I’ve absolutely loved. So prepare to watch me eat humble pie.
The thing that makes Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series so good, is the excellent incorporation of historical fiction into her stories. Miss Dobbs is a professional London-based sleuth in the years following World War I. Her latest assignment: to find a runaway heiress. The background of the war plays a big part in this novel, and not only does Ms. Winspear present an interesting mystery of twists and turns, but I learned a little something about the time period and the repercussions of the Great War. Excellent!
