The main character in this book's name was Brian. He is fourteen years old and his summer job it to be the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. Usually the boys that are batboys are sixteen years old or older. During that same summer he has travel ball and later in the year his favorite baseball player comes back to the Tigers. Brian's job as a batboy goes as high as getting players what they need to making coffee for the players. Before games he needs to stock the dugout up with seeds and gum, and anything else needs to be brought out like bats. After the games he needs to shine shoes, sweep out the dugout, and put away the gear.
Brian's favorite baseball player Hank Bishop came back to the Tigers. When he came he seemed distant and mean to everyone that came up to him. Everyone but the press. For an example one game Hank got mad at Brian for giving him a bat that he didn't want. Then after the game when Brian's mom picked him up Hank pretended to be nice to Brian and said that he was about to apoligize. At the end of the book Hank gave batting tips to Brian and then Brian gave tips to Hank and they both came out of they're slumps. Hank got his 500 home runs and Brian got his first home run ever.
During the book Brian misses his dad because he hadn't see much of him since his parents got divorced, and when his dad got a pitching coach job in Japan. Even when Brian sends him letters or emails his dad never sends anything back. Then for a couple of days his dad come back to Detroit to scout Hank Bishop to play in Japan. At the field Brian gets mad that his dad never even seems to know that Brians there. His dad doesn't even think that he is doing anything wrong.

12.0% "Brian Dudley is only fourteen years old and he is the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. His player had just been signed with the Tiger, his name is Hank Bishop. Also Brian's dad was in the pros, but he retired and then divorced Brian's mom. His mom doesn't like to talk about baseball much, but Brian loves baseball."
