I got into it. The most compeeling aspect of the book for me was that the story and characters were drawn from the author's own family. So you can look at the marvelous photos and geneaology she has included and think about your own ancestors this way--what stories are behind those old photos? The author takes a known historical event, and then shows how people shape how it unfolds and also how it affects them-and their descendants-for yers to come. I always love it when writers discuss history and the level of the individual.
