Dark of the Moon, by John Sanford, B-plus, narrated by Eric conger, produced by Penguin Audio, downloaded from audible.com.

This appears to be the first novel where Virgil Flowers is the main character. Although I haven’t read any of the Lucas Davenport series, Virgil seems to be a breakaway from the characters in that series. Davenport is Flowers’ supervisor at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, (BCA). Flowers is sent to a small Minnesota town called Blue Stem because a couple was murdered in a particularly gruesome way. On his way into town, Flowers witnesses the unexpected explosion and fire of a house which turns out to contain the body of a man restrained and left to burn to death in the fire. As Flowers investigates, he finds that most people hated Judd for a variety of reasons. He believes that Judd’s murder and the murder of the previous couple are connected, and when other murders occur as well, he connects them all to something that happened back in the 1970’s. Flowers must do a lot of digging to find out what events from the past connected to cause these murders now, which seemed to be done in revenge. And while he is investigating, he finds himself in danger as well. Quite a good book.
