I picked up a used copy of this book a few years ago. I bought it because it was cheap (and so am I!) and I had really enjoyed reading HST's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I was in primary school during the 80s, and it's not a decade that we ever had enough time to cover in history courses I took later, so I don't know much about the politics of the era. HST, by contrast, seems intimately familiar with the major players. In this collection of short newspaper and magazine columns, I was impressed by HST's pithy characterizations of political figures and by how attuned he was to the pulse of American pop culture and the populace.
