really liked it
bookshelves: classics, mystery-and-crime
Read from February 22 to 25, 2011

A poet-policeman has a series of strange adventures after talking his way on to a surprisingly organized council of dangerous anarchists. There were lots of twists and turns in the story, my favorite was a beautifully tense chase through the French countryside.

I will say I had mixed feelings about the ending. The author spells out what he was getting at pretty clearly, and the style of the ending intensifies the dreamlike tone of the whole book. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting. I feel like it'll take more thought and at least one more re-read to make things fit better for me.

It was really entertaining though, and I'd definitely recommend it.
